Chapter 12 "Professor Umbridge" Summary
On their first day of classes, Harry, Ron and Hermione find that they have a punishing schedule. Hermione scolds Fred and George for advertising jobs as testers for their joke products. Ron's brothers warn the kids that they have a grueling year ahead of them, culminating in some very tough exams. Harry learns that Quidditch tryouts will be later in the week and he looks forward to seeing who is chosen as the team's new Keeper.
Discussions turn toward plans for life after Hogwarts. Ron expresses interest in becoming an Auror and Hermione considers a path to further the rights of house elves with the S.P.E.W. organization. The kids go to a dull class on the history of magic taught by a droning ghost and Hermione is the only one who can pay any attention.
