Chapter 3 "The Advance Guard" Summary

As soon as Harry gets to his room, he writes three copies of a letter for Sirius, Ron and Hermione, asking what is going on and when he can get out of the house. Harry's owl Hedwig returns from hunting and Harry rudely sends her to deliver the letters before she can even eat. Harry waits impatiently for news from his friends about the state of things for four whole days. On the fourth day, Hedwig has yet to return and Harry's uncle informs him that the rest of the family will be going out. Harry must remain locked in his room.

Soon after they leave, Harry hears noises and voices coming from the kitchen. His bedroom door unlocks itself and Harry cautiously goes to investigate what he thinks might be.....
