Summary

The narrative arrives back to the scene in the prologue. Jay is at his mother's apartment, telling her about Edison's estate. He has brought Celeste with him. Yuki appears ill and is wrapped up in several scarves. When she asks about her son, Jay is taken aback that she does not recognize him, but he responds that it is him.

In Chapter 17, Jay asks to use the bathroom, and peers into Yuki's bedroom on his way. There is a mattress on the floor with yellow sheets, a stuffed monkey, and used tissues. When he returns to her, he notices she has burn marks on her arm, which he assumes are self-inflicted. She says she does not want the house.
