Haley's house

Haley lives with her uncle in the house that belongs to her family. Because her father is in prison, her uncle moved into their home to raise Haley. Over the years, the home has become a very familiar and memorable place for Haley. She knows that the third step on the staircase will creak, her bedroom door will whine as she closes it, the dog across the street will bark as he goes outside every morning. She loves hearing her uncle move around the house, playing songs on his guitars and making the pipes rattle when water moves through the pipes in the shower. Even her purple comforter is familiar even though she now thinks she is too old for something with a unicorn on it. Haley narrates the story from her upstairs bedroom as she reflects on the past school year.
