Act 2, Scene 2 Summary

This scene takes place in a room in the castle. The first part of this scene takes place with the introduction of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, Hamlet's old friends. They have been sent to the Court to seek out the cause of Hamlet's affliction. They are dismissed and Polonius enters. He, indeed, believes that he has found the problem with Hamlet, the cause of his seeming madness. But before he will explain it, he brings Voltimand and Cornelius, the ambassadors to Norway, to the royal couple. They have affected some kind of peace between Denmark and Norway, Fortinbras, the angered Prince, having been mollified. They leave and Polonius now can reveal that Hamlet is deeply involved with his daughter, Ophelia. He reads Hamlet's note to her to Claudius and Gertrude. They decide.....
