Summary

Chapter 1

Catherine Crawfield panicked when she was stopped by the cops for a burned out tail light. It was 4 a.m. She told the cop that she was out driving around because she couldn’t sleep. How could she explain what was in the back of her truck?! The body was bleeding. When the cop shined his light on it, she told him it was juice leaking from cherries from her grandmother. He believed her. She was relieved when he stopped exploring or else he would have found the axe and dead body. He suspected she was out “sleeping around” like her mother. She swallowed her anger and asked him not to spread it around.

Catherine didn’t know what she was until her mother, Justina, told her at sixteen. Even her grandparents, with whom she and her mother lived, didn’t know...
