Relationships

One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. The two primary relationships that the novel tackles are romantic relationships and relationships between friends.

Both Sid and Hiero put more stock in their relationships with their friends than they do with their own family members. Additionally, music is more important to Sid than anyone in his life., although, many of Sid's friends are also his bandmates.

The novel also delves into romantic relationships. While Sid and Delilah are not officially in a romantic relationship, Sid is in love with Delilah. The novel focuses on how Sid's love for Delilah and his desire for her to be in a relationship with him drives Sid to withhold important paperwork from Hiero that could have changed the outcome of Hiero's life, including not landing him in a camp.
