Summary

In Chapter 14, the basement in Gwendy’s house floods and Gwendy goes down to check on the box. She is panicked because her father has told her how wet and smelly it is down there. She is unable to see what she is doing in the murky water but pulls out the brick and frees the bag from its hiding place. After she finishes replacing the brick she cannot locate the bag and feels as if she is about to pass out until she remembers that she has forgotten to breathe. She finds the bag and box, covers it in a towel and takes it to her room. There, she hides the box in an oversized shoe box. Every thirty minutes she checks the box to make sure it is still safe. She has to force herself to attend the prom that night...
