Part Two: Chapter 18, (pg 530- 553) Summary

Emma Allen could not enjoy herself after Celia joins the party. She decides to end the festivities early after she sees Celia speak to Stephen and the way he reacts to her presence. Later that night she decides to go to Stephen's hut. She peers through the window and finds two bodies entwined together. It is Celia and Stephen, and they are talking about their plans. Emma backs away, but Celia tells Stephen that she saw a face. Stephen believes she is just seeing things and tells her to be calm. They will leave tomorrow for London. Celia gives Stephen her wedding ring from Sir John. She says it will serve as a sort of marriage between them. Stephen wants to give Celia something, but she insists he has already given her a baby.
