Chapter 43 Summary

There is no doubt that Provis (another pseudonym for Magwitch) is endangered by Compeyson, who may still be alive. Pip decides that before he leaves the country with Provis, he will have to see Estella and Havisham. He goes to the Blue Boar where he meets Drummle. They stand before the fire together, testing each other. There is a triumphant look in Drummle's eyes when he talks to the waiter about a lady with whom he has been riding. Just as things get difficult near the fire, three farmers come in and displace them. A man, half hidden, lights Drummle's cigar. Pip thinks it may be Orlick.
