Chapter 37 Summary

Pip decides to visit Walworth on Sunday. He is admitted to the Castle by the Aged. Miss Skiffins comes to the Castle with Wemmick. Alone with Wemmick, he tells him how he wants to help Herbert in a very discreet way. Wemmick says that he will help with the aid of Miss Skiffins brother, who is an accountant. They will secretly help Herbert buy into a partnership with Clarriker's House. During tea, Mr. Wemmick on several occasions tries to wind his arm around Miss Skiffins waist. She unwinds the arm in a discreet manner.

Chapter 37 Analysis

In this chapter, Wemmick begins the process that will bring Herbert into a more decent, real existence and help him move forward with his marriage. This is an example of the kind gestures for which Wemmick will use his fortune.
