A month later, Mary Anne, Karen and Matt sit on the porch talking to Lillian. To their surprise, they learn that they will be in Ravenel for at least another year. It is the first time in a long time that the Meechams have been in the same town for more than a year. Ben appears on the porch and invites Mary Anne to the Junior-Senior Prom in two weeks. Mary Anne tells him she's no charity case, and Ben is hurt. Mary Anne has been his closest friend over the years, and he will miss her when he goes off to college. He had only intended to be nice. Lillian browbeats Mary Anne into going and offers to borrow a formal dress from one of the officers' wives. Bull arrives and insists.....
