Chapter 30 Summary

Ben and Mary Anne drink iced tea on the porch and wait for Sammy to arrive with Emma Lee Givens. Mary Anne teases Ben about how much he'll miss her when he goes to college next year. Sammy and his date arrive and invite the Meecham siblings to go to a movie with them. Ben refuses, preferring to hang out and torment Mary Anne while he still can. Mary Anne takes Emma Lee upstairs to loan her a book, and Sammy tells Ben that he's going to convince Emma Lee to go to lovers' lane after the movie. Ben wishes him luck.

Suave Sammy successfully talks Emma Lee into parking, but she balks when she sees the remote wooded area. Sammy reassures her and they begin to kiss, They savor the moment until Emma.....
