Chapter 24 Summary

On Christmas Eve, stars sparkle in the sky above the river. Caroling voices can be heard throughout the Lawn, and the Meecham family prepares for Midnight Mass. Ben and Mary Anne are stunned by their mother's radiant beauty and her yellow dress. They gather by the tree and wait impatiently for Bull, who is taking his time in the bathroom. Mary Anne tells the younger kids a story about the time they lived in a house with only one bathroom. One day, Ben had been so desperate to use the bathroom while Bull was in there that Lillian had given Ben a milk carton in which to do his business. Unfortunately, Ben had stashed the carton in the refrigerator, intending to dump it when his father got out, but forgot about it. Bull.....
