Chapter 20 Summary

Ben packs a gym bag in preparation for basketball tryouts. Mary Anne tells him that as of today, his sense of isolation as the new kid will be over, and he'll be the golden boy basketball star again. Ben reminds her he has to make the team first, but he knows Mary Anne is right. If all goes well, Ben will be a star at school soon. For the past eight years, he has spent almost every day shooting a hundred jump shots, a hundred layups and a hundred foul shots. He once spent an entire school year dribbling to and from school with his left hand. However, despite his obsession with being the best at the sport, Ben always worries about making the team. Too many basketball coaches in the Southern schools.....
