Chapter 16 Summary

Bull turns up at the Catholic church one day to complain to the priest, Thomas Aquinas Pinckney, about the lack of a Catholic school in Ravenel. Apparently, he's not the first Marine father to complain, and Father Pinckney reacts as if Bull has touched a nerve. Father Pinckney invites Bull in for a drink and gives him an impassioned speech about the lack of resources the Catholic Church can spare for tiny Ravenel. Bull is impressed by Father Pinckney and enlists Ben and Matt to serve the 11:15 Sunday Mass for the entire school year. He also enrolls Ben and Mary Anne in the Wednesday night catechism class to compensate for their public school.
