Chapter 13 Summary

Ben and Mary Anne prepare for their first day of high school in Ravenel. As military dependents, the Meecham kids enter a new school nearly every year. Each year, Lillian gives them a pep talk about making friends quickly, but Ben and Mary Anne know from experience it will take them at least three months to begin to adjust and make friends. When they arrive at school, they feel as if every eye is on them though it is likely no one has noticed them at all. Knowing no one else, Ben and Mary Anne walk the halls together. This year, Ben is a senior and Mary Anne a junior.

In Ben's homeroom, Mrs. Troutman tells the new and returning students about certain school traditions, and then she holds the elections for class officers......
