Chapter 12 Summary

After the change of command ceremony, Colonel Bull Meecham sits at his desk and reflects on the achievement of his dream of being a squad commander. His children carried themselves well and Lillian lent her usual charm to the ceremony, but Bull still feels disappointed by his achievement. It doesn't feel as good as he thought it would. Bull brushes aside the anticlimactic feeling of the moment and arranges for his squad to assemble for inspection at 1230 hours.

Precisely at 1230, Bull enters the briefing room to meet the officers of his squadron. He already knows many of the men, but this will be the first time he's addressed them after assuming command. He delivers a rousing speech that he has rehearsed for twelve years. The speech, like Bull, is old school Marine......
