Chapter 6 Summary

On approaching the main gate at the Ravenel Marine Air Station, Bull catches sight of an F-8 fighter plane taking off into the blue sky. His love for flight is like a thirst in his body, and Bull can't wait to get back in the air. As Bull pulls up to the gate for the first time, the guard on duty squints at the car, still dusty from the road trip, to determine if he should allow Bull entry. Finally, he looks inside the car, sees the silver leaves on Bull's collar, salutes and waves Bull through. Bull stops the car and berates the guard for his sloppy salute. After dressing him down, Bull tells the guard to let all his buddies know that Colonel Bull Meecham has arrived and will be making.....
