Chapter 14 "She'll Be Riding Six White Horses (When She Comes)" Summary

The chapter begins with a series of letters to and from Gilly. She writes to and receives letters from W.E., Miss Harris, and Trotter and Mr. Randolph. The series of letters ends with Gilly telling her family that her mother Courtney is coming to visit.

Gilly comes to know her grandmother (Nonnie, as she has requested to be called) better. Though Nonnie chatters quite a bit, Gilly begins to like her, when she realizes how tough her grandmother is. Nonnie buys a Christmas tree and Gilly helps her decorate it with ancient family ornaments. It is the nicest tree either of them ever remember having.

Nonnie admits to Gilly that she is nervous about Courtney's arrival, because she doesn't know how to act around her.....
