Scene 7 Summary
As Mrs. Shin and Shen Te take in the washing, Mrs. Shin discovers Shui Ta's trousers. When Shen Te suggests that he threw them away, Mrs. Shin asks to have them. Shen Te hides them.
Shu Fu rushes in, and before Shen Te can say anything, he praises her for her goodness and for sacrificing her happiness in order to not hurt the old couple. He leaves her a signed blank check to use in any way she wishes. Then he quickly rushes out again, and Mrs. Shin urges Shen Te to hurry and cash the check. When Shen Te doesn't choose to do this right away, Mrs. Shin accuses her of still loving Yang Sun. Shen Te admits that it's true and then staggers dizzily as she picks up a basket of laundry. Mrs. Shin wonders whether Shen Te might be pregnant, then goes to collect more laundry. Shen...
