Scene 4 Summary

Several people, including Mrs. Shin, wait outside Shen Te's shop, gossiping about how she's been out all night again. As they're waiting, Wong is chased out of the Barbershop across the way. Shu Fu, the barber, is angry that Wong has been trying to sell his water in the shop and strikes his hand with a hot curling iron. As Wong screams, Shu Fu goes back into the shop, and the people waiting for Shen Te tell him to go to the police.

Shen Te comes in, telling us how happy she is, how much in love with Yang Sun she is, and rejoicing in the beauty of the morning. She hands out rice to the people waiting for her, then goes into the cigar shop across the way. Shu Fu comes out of his shop and comments on how beautiful he thinks she is, then disappears...
