Chapter 23, "Postscript" Summary

Will is gardening when Carrie, home from school for the weekend, comes for a visit. Her mother has not supported her high school experience and does not like her reading books. The mother keeps giving the girl jobs so she cannot find time to read or study. At Will's house, she goes up to his room and puts on a pair of shorts to ride a bike. Her mother has said she will turn into a boy if she wears shorts, but she puts on Zach's and both agree she's still very much a girl. She wears one of Zach's sweaters as well. As she changes, Will notices that she is starting to get breasts. He wishes to touch her arm for a moment but does not dare.
