Chapter 21, "Back to School" Summary
It's the beginning of the new school year, and half the excitement is seeing Carrie off to high school, resplendent in her new uniform, for which her dad labored a great deal. He wanted his daughter to look as good as all the other students, especially since girls are not common attendees in high school. Zach and Will roam through the woods on the way to school, enjoying the beauty of the morning. However, Zach is not his cheerful self, because he has heard that there is so much bombing in London, and he is so worried about his parents.
On the first day of school the teacher discusses fun activities they will be doing. To the children's surprise, Geoffrey is there as the new teacher. The plans include expeditions in the woods to collect samples, make art and write poems, including an epic poem, so Zach is also happy....
