After all the talk of visiting the haunted house Spooky Cott, the children decide to visit it before school starts. They have made a map, which they take with them on the expedition. They sneak up on the place, but needlessly, since there is no one to see them coming. They hoot to each other to signal their various approach, but that scares them even more than they would have been.
