Chapter 12, "The Show Must Go On" Summary

As November continues on, some of the London children have gone home, but Zach, Willie, and a few others remain in the country. Mr. Tom works in his garden gathering turnips and preparing the land for next year. He also helps neighbors do any work they needed, including tree trimming, bringing home branches for a fragrant fire. The war continues on, but Little Weirwold remains mostly the same although the Christmas play has to be recast, when some of the children go back to the city.

The play chosen is an adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Willie has had to become the prompter when the boy, who was the prompter, goes off the boarding school. He has learned all the lines well and sometimes doesn't even need the book.....
