Chapter 11, "Friday" Summary

The chapter begins with Mr. Tom paying a visit to Mrs. Fletcher, George's mother as well as the person, who has been doing the knitting for Willie's clothes. They discuss Willie's progress and the fact that Willie's mother cannot send money, though she sends negative warning messages which Mr. Tom does not pass on to Willie. Mrs. Fletcher notes that the boy has changed a lot - and that so has Mr. Tom.

Willie has prepared items for supper and is polishing his boots, when Mr. Tom returns. He tells Mr. Tom how well he is doing in school and then the first visitor for the evening in Willie's room arrives. It is Zach. The older boy is excited to see Willie's room, now decorated with drawings and paintings. Sam the dog joins.....
