Chapter 10, "The Case" Summary
Cold weather ensues in this chapter and the mailman has been conscripted, but an older lady has unearthed an ancient bicycle and volunteered to deliver the mail. Willie has made such progress with reading and writing that he has moved up to his proper class, although he is said to leave his teacher of whom he is now fond. The librarian stops by after school to help him read and comments on how quickly he learns words and poems. The parents of the London children have been asked by the government to send money or other material to help with their country support.
Zach receives a parcel with money and favorite books, but so far Willie has not. It comes in a battered suitcase including food, money and a letter. All the friends have gathered to see what Zach has received. His parents have also sent him the complete works...
