Chapter 5, "Chamberlain Announces" Summary

Mr. Tom doesn't worry for a moment, when Willie awakens with a wet bed the next morning, and he reassures the boy about it. They lean together out the window, surveying the beautiful new morning after a rain. Mr. Tom points out the teachers' residences and explains who teaches what levels. The two dress, although the hand-me-downs available don't necessarily fit Willie well. Willie is delighted to have new boots of his own although they still cut his ankles a little. The two dress up a little, because it is Sunday, and they are headed to church.

Willie helps the vicar put out hymnbooks - red ones, which confuses Willie, since his mother always said that red was wicked. The beautiful, quiet day filled with sunshine and good outdoor smells makes Willie.....
