Yellow Notebook Summary

Anna defines a new third to include in her novel. This third is Ella herself, the whole, healthy Ella. Ella is no longer this healthy person since she has been abandoned by Paul. Ella moves out of Julia's flat much to the chagrin of Julia. Ella feels completely alone. She now feels her identity has changed from a woman living with another woman to a woman living alone. Dr. West contacts her and offers an affair. Ella declines and Dr. West is angry. Dr. West is not the only married man who contacts Ella with this offer.
