Part 3, Chapter 21 Summary

Soren Eisarson, an elderly council of the bears who had witnessed the negotiation of Asriel's imprisonment, tells Lyra her father had been equipped with every necessity, including a laboratory.

Lord Asriel's elegant house is located on the top of a high crag. Lyra is greeted by fearfully by Lord Asriel, who tells her to get out. However, when Asriel sees Roger, he calms down and welcomes them into his house. Lyra, and Roger bathe while Lord Asriel speaks with Iorek. Roger tells Lyra he is afraid of Lord Asriel, more so than he is afraid of Mrs. Coulter, and that Lord Asriel had looked at him like a wolf. Lyra wants to consult the alethiometer, but Roger convinces her not to. Thorold, Lord Asriel's servant, tells Roger to go to bed, and.....
