Part 3, Chapter 18 Summary

Serafina and Scoresby discuss Lyra's importance. Scoresby also says he will not participate in a war, because he has only been paid for transportation, not for war. The two discuss fate, and how it affects everyone. They decide they are on Lyra's side of the war, whichever that may be.

When Lyra awakens, she asks about the future of Lord Asriel, and whether or not he will return to Jordan College after he is rescued. Serafina tells her that Asriel will not return to the College, because there is work to be done in other worlds. Lyra asks numerous questions about the witches, and learns they live hundreds of years, and that Pekkala is at least three hundred years old. She learns there are no male witches, only men that work for.....
