Uukumil

Uukumil is the opening setting of the novel and where Casiopea is forced to work for her Grandfather Cirilio and his family. This is also where Martín and his cruelty are introduced by way of his interactions with Casiopea. Uukumil is said to be stuck in the past due to its archaic views on women and the lack of modern ideas and technology. It is here that she awakens Hun-Kamé and is sent on the journey to collect the pieces of himself.
