Part 3 Summary

On her date with Bill, the narrator has her first experience with speed, and records in her diary how much she loves it (see "Quotes," p. 38). A few days later, her beloved grand-father has a mild heart attack, and the narrator resolves to not use drugs so she can help both him and her grandmother cope. But she's unable to completely resist Bill and the allure of the drugs he offers, and one night when they're getting high together she and Bill have sex, which she describes as being wonderful. A few days after that experience, however, her feelings change - not only does she begin to worry that she's gotten pregnant, but she also has an encounter with Roger, whom she says is more attractive than ever and who asks her.....
