Summary

In Chapter 13, Zoe wakes up in the hospital and is horrified to find that her neck port is connected to a machine. She wonders if any information about herself has been revealed, especially when the doctor says he has detected anomalies, but he only replaces a battery in her heart monitor and releases her. Arriving at home, Zoe is sad that no one welcomes her or has missed or worried about her since they are incapable of feelings. Max visits but he refuses Zoe’s plea that they talk with Adrien or try to find others like themselves. He says he only wants her and that perhaps they can be marital partners, which disturbs Zoe at first because she hopes to leave the Community, but the idea of not being alone is appealing and she agrees that she would like to be family...
