Summary

Chapter 7 begins as Mare and Kilorn leave the infirmary. Mare stops in her tracks when she hears Kilorn muttering angrily, and she confronts him. He tells her that the Colonel is not “entirely wrong” (84) that mare is dangerous, and Mare storms away. Kilorn grabs her by the arm and tells her that she can trust him. She tells him she cannot and apologizes. With directions from Farley, Mare finds Barracks 1 located underground beneath the dock. It also serves as the island’s armory and the housing for the Lakelanders, including the Colonel, so Mare and Kilorn must circumvent the main tunnel entrance and enter through the ocean.
