Summary

In Chapter 18, Lacoste and Gamache took Patrick to a back room of the bistro to break the news to him that his wife was dead. Patrick told them he had last seen his wife outside the previous night. He had not been worried when he did not see Katie in the morning because he thought she was with Lea. As Lacoste questioned Patrick his words were coming more and more slowly. Lea poured Patrick a scotch, which he drank all in one swallow. As Patrick grew more unsteady and his words made less sense, Beauvoir asked for Harris to be called. When Patrick passed completely out, Lea admitted she had given him an Ativan.

Gamache continued to wonder why the robes had been put on Katie. He rationalized there had to be a connection between Katie and the cobrador.
