Brendan says in his suicide note that the kids made fun of him and even the adults tried to make him conform. Brendan shooting them is his payback for the hell they all put him through. Gary's former girlfriend Alison says that Gary always thought life was big joke. Allison has says that there were different sets of rules for the different sets of students. If a popular kid is disrupting class by talking, the teacher may tell her to stop talking, but if one of the other kids disrupts the class by talking, the teacher makes a big scene.
