Poornima

Poornima is a teenaged girl living in the small Indian village Indrivalli. Her mother is recently deceased from cancer and her father is trying to arrange a marriage for her. She works for her father weaving fabric. When Poornima’s father hires Savitha to help make saris, Poornima and Savitha form a strong friendship.

When Poornima attends a wedding viewing with her potential groom, she refuses to sing when she is asked. The groom’s family regards this as an act of defiance and cancel the marriage arrangement. After Poornima’s father rapes Savitha and Savitha runs away, Poornima submits to a marriage to Kishore, a man with a deformed hand. Poornima tries to please Kishore and his family by submitting to Kishore sexually and cooking and cleaning for the family.
