Summary

In Chapter 41, Bull O’Kane watched two dogs circle each other from above the crowd of betters. He owned the dog- fighting ring and was, therefore, always afforded the best seat in the house. The two animals were seasoned and well- matched, and they had been slowly wearing each other down for forty minutes. Blood was caked on their faces, but they didn’t tire in spite of their injuries. The Brindle subdued the Red hound but refused to let go. When the handler couldn’t get the dog under control, Bull stepped down into the ring and connected his boot with the dog’s scrotum.
