Summary

Section 3 begins in September when Cat is beginning school. She sees Carlos, and he asks about Maya. Cat reveals that Maya is still in the hospital. Cat excuses herself and goes into the bathroom where she meets Seo Young. Cat is hopeful that Seo Young does not believe in ghosts, but she is looking forward to seeing the ghost of the cutest boy she has ever seen.

At home, Maya is back at home with a breathing tube. Car asks if it is permanent. Her mother reminds her that cystic fibrosis is degenerative and that Maya will never be cured of it. Cat plays music for Maya. At school. Cat and her friends talk about video games. When Carlos walks past, her friends suggest that she has a crush on Carlos. Carlos passes Cat a note that reads: “Please forgive me.” (118).
