Summary

Officer Moore is called back to the stand on the second day of the trial. Sarah is not in the courtroom today. He is sworn in to tell the truth before the prosecutors begin asking him questions. They reveal that Jerome was shot in the back, and the lawyer asks how Officer Moore could have feared for his life if Jerome was turned away from him. Jerome thinks to himself that he was the one who truly feared for his life.

In Chapter 20, Jerome feels as though he has not had any rest despite being dead. He reflects on the irony of being told to rest in peace. He roams through beautiful neighborhoods filled with huge houses and discovers the beauty of Chicago. He has stopped following his parents because it became too painful to see them acting like robots in the wake...
