Summary

Jerome has been dead for four months. His family is at the courthouse for a preliminary hearing of Officer Moore. Jerome is angry that the police officer is lying about him threatening him with a gun that turned out to be a toy. Officer Moore’s wife and daughter are sitting behind him. The girl tells Jerome that she can see him.

In Chapter 7, the novel flashes back to the day Jerome died, December 8. Carlos waves the gun in the bathroom and the bullies try to calm him down. Once Jerome and Carlos scare the bullies off, Carlos reveals that the gun is just a toy.
