Chapter 12 Summary

Ruth has prepared breakfast. Anton and Patty sit down to eat. Anton asks Ruth to join them, but she declines. After awhile, she brings in a cup of coffee and sits down with them. The two adults discuss the problems in their respective countries. Ruth tells a story about how her mother saved money every week so Ruth could go to college. When the time came, they discovered that a rich banker had stolen almost all of the money. The three are enjoying their talk when they hear a car in the driveway. Patty hides Anton under her bed. It turns out only to be the mother of Sharon's friend. She wants to ask if she can take Sharon to Wynne City for the day. Anton is safe, but he realizes the risk he exposed them to.
