The Yukon

The Yukon is a territory in northwestern Canada, and where Ivan grew up. Ivan describes it as remote, cold, and rough. As a remote territory, people often have to fend for themselves in trouble. They describe the Yukon winter as, “dark and black ice all around, and cold, but not real cold like it can get. Like mabe minus ten or fifteen [degrees]” (169). Ivan also the she-wolves of the Yukon in the chapter “Rosie.” They explain how their inherent wildness prevents them from becoming domesticated animals. It is the location for Ivan’s chapters “Introduction,” “Girl Failure,” and “A Cautionary Tale.” It is also the location where Ivan and Rae worked on their first show together called You Are Here, as explained in Ivan’s chapter “Introduction” (11).
