Chapter 19 Summary

Dirty Red joins Charlie in a ditch and shares some cigarettes with him. Lou calls to Charlie to let Luke Will and his buddies turn themselves in, but Charlie refuses. Lou tells Charlie it will be murder if he shoots and kills any of the white men. Charlie says he has already murdered Beau. Lou says that it was self-defense and that Candy will swear to that. Lou tells Charlie that he has Mathu there and that Mathu wants to talk to him, but Charlie says Mathu told him to stand and that's what he's doing. Dirty Red says he's not scared because he's there with Charlie. He asks Charlie what he saw out in the swamps. Charlie tells him he and the rest have all seen it, too. Lou calls to Charlie.....
