Chapter 16 Summary

The men are all planning to see Mapes and Charlie off and then go home, but then Luke Will comes. Mapes tells Charlie to hit the floor, but Charlie says he's not afraid of Luke Will. He goes back in the house and gets the shotgun from Mathu, who is very proud of him. Mapes tells Charlie to let him handle this, but Charlie says it's his fight since Luke Will came to lynch him. Clatoo says it's everyone's fight and reveals that the men have been collecting shotgun cartridges with every trip to the toilet. They are all armed with loaded guns. Mapes tells Luke Will to go home, and Luke Will that he will leave when they send Charlie out. Mapes calls Griffin, but Griffin refuses to do anything to help.....
