Chapter Four Summary

Hank arranges a rental home in Gap Creek for after the wedding. He and Julie get married on a Saturday, almost a month after they first met. On their first night as husband and wife, they sleep in separate bedrooms at Mama's house. The next day, they walked down the mountain to Gap Creek. Hank has arranged free room and board in exchange for tending to Mr. Pendergast, their landlord's, house and personal needs. Julie is in charge of cleaning the house and cooking all Mr. Pendergast's meals. The couple arrives in the evening and quickly makes their way up to their marital bed.
