Summary

In the back room of the recycling facility, Cedar admires a painting on the wall, when suddenly Tia goes into labor. It is deemed unsafe for Tia to have her baby there, so Shawn helps Tia, Sera, and Cedar into a series of caves behind the facility, created when the cliffs of the Mississippi River were mined for sand. It is a long and difficult labor, but fortunately Sera used to be a midwife. Finally, the baby comes, but it is not breathing. Sera attempts to resuscitate her to no avail. Exhausted by the labor, everyone falls asleep. Cedar wakes up in the early morning and discovers a nest of rats have invaded the cave and they are attempting to eat the medical waste and Tia's baby, which Sera had wrapped up and placed in a corner.
