Rielle did not develop powers until she was five. One night she got into a fight with her mother about staying up late, and she set her house on fire and her mother died. Her father rescued her from the fire, but he never forgot what she had done. Other elemental magicians could wield one element with the help of a sacred object, but Rielle had access to all seven elements and did not need any special object to channel her powers.

Throughout the rest of her childhood and adolescence, her father and Tal worked to teach her to conceal her powers and control her emotions.
